Example Battle Report
Please note, this is from an eariler version of the rules, so there are some differences. However, it is representitive of how a Battle Report looks
Battle for Akodo Province
Step 1: Assign Generals
Unicorn: Moto Tetsuko, Water 10k4:
Lion: Akodo Bob, Water 1k1:
Moto Tetsuko, Champion of the Unicorn, Great Kahn of the East, Fist of the Moto, lead his forces over the border into Akodo province. He looked back at the thousands of brave horsemen riding behind him and nodded. Here, here was what Rokugan represented. Strength. Speed. Pride. Honor. He knew that Ide Morimoto would represent all these things at the Test of the Emerald Champion.
The Lion did not represent these things. Genai was an arrogant fool, who did not know what true Strength was. According to Murasame, he worked with Bloodspeakers, assassins, and common criminals. Any man who used a plague as a weapon was an honorless dog. He always through about matching his mettle with Genai on the field. But he knew that Genai was also at the test. He would have to settle for some Akodo dog, barely out of his Gempukku.
Step 2: Disposition
Moto Tetsuko, Water 10k4: 7, 8, 9, 15 +20: 59.
Akodo Bob, Water 1k1: 6 +6: 12
Tetsuko could have Ambushed Bob, but honorably keeps it to Surprised.
Tetsuko shook his head in disgust. The vast Lion force was still in camp, even with the sun fully on the horizon. Their sentries had been obviously placed and easily dispatched. They had boxed themselves between a copse of trees and a series of bluffs. While it might look defensible to the untrained eye, Tetsuko saw it for what it was: a killing box. In pity, he raised the war horn of the Unicorn and blew a deep, bellowing note that echoes down the hills and across the camp, stirring the peasants into action. But it was too late. The rumble of tens of thousands of hooves followed the echo, magnifying it to a deafening volume.
Step 3: Duel
As Tetsuko rode into the borders of the camp, he could see no personal standards or mons. There was no leadership here.
Step 4: Initiative
Moto Tetsuko, Water 10k4: 8, 9, 9, 18 +10: 54
Akodo Bob, Water 1k1: 5
Unicorn Strike first
The Lion forces started the battle in a panic. Peasants struggled to find their weapons, and many did not have a chance to buckle on their limited bamboo armor. Their lines were disorganized and nonexistence. A small knot of trained troops was forming at the center of the camp, but when the might of the Unicorn plowed into the massed Lions, their lines collapsed and broke apart.
Step 5: First side attacks
5 Cavalry, AV 3 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, +2, +2): 2 Strikes.
The Unicorn attack took the Lions by surprise. Coordinated into killing wedges and pinchers, the vast Unicorn cavalry trampled, hacked, impaled, bludgeoned, and ripped the Lion infantry. There were flashes of fire and electricity. The Otaku Battle Maidens lead the Scout Cavalry through to the heart of the Lion force.
Clan Elite, Fear 7: 1, 2, 6, 9. 3 Negated.
Clan Elite, TV 7: 4, 5, 9. 2 Blocked. Destroyed.
3 Samurai, TV 5: 2, 5, 7, 10, 10. 2 Blocked, Destroyed.
15 Ashigaru, TV 2: 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 10, 10, 10: 5 Blocked, 10 Destroyed.
5 Ashigaru, TV 2: 1, 1, 4, 6, 9. 3 Pinned.
The Matsu Deathseekers were trained enough to react quickly to the surprise attack. They called the samurai to them, and situated themselves at the front of the Lion force, trying to give the scattered Ashigaru time to reform. They were noble and they fought like their namesakes, but they could no more hold against the onrushing Unicorn than hay before a flood. They were broken and scattered, and the Ashigaru were like wheat before the scythe.
Step 6: Second Side Attacks
2 Ashigaru, AV 2: 3, 6. No Strike
5 Bushi, AV 3: 1, 3, 3, 10, 10. 3 Strikes.
2 Scouts, AV 3: 4, 7. No Strike
1 Scout Cav, AV 3: 9. No Strike
1 Engineer, AV 3. 4 No Strike.
In the aftermath of the Unicorns initial charge, the scattered Bushi were able to pull together. They harassed the Unicorn flank as the vast force wheeled about.
3 Cav, TV 3: 2, 10, 10. 2 Destroyed.
Cavalry had their horses cut from under them, man and beast screaming as they tumbled broken to the earth. Men were pulled off their steeds and pierced by the spears of the bushi. But Lion saw in despair it was but a fraction of the attacking Unicorn force.
Step 7, Check Morale
Akodo Bob, Water 1k1, TN 70.
Why should I roll?
In the face of a second pass by the wall of death the Unicorn represented, the Lion broke and ran. Tetsuko reared his massive charger and roared the Unicorn battle cry to speed the fleeing Lions on their way.
The Lion retreat. The Unicorn claim the province.
